However, engineering and planning for coastal protection offer opportunities for protection and restoration, especially through valuing co-benefits. BCE destruction is unlikely to stop fully, and not all losses can be restored. Mangrove protection and/or restoration could provide the greatest carbon-related benefits, but better understanding of other BCEs is needed. Potential BCE restoration has been estimated in the range of 0.2–3.2 million ha for tidal marshes, 8.3–25.4 million ha for seagrasses and 9–13 million ha for mangroves, which could draw down an additional 841 (621–1,064) Tg CO 2e per year by 2030, collectively amounting to ~3% of global emissions (based on 20 global annual fossil fuel emissions). Globally, BCEs are calculated to store >30,000 Tg C across ~185 million ha, with their conservation potentially avoiding emissions of 304 (141–466) Tg carbon dioxide equivalent (CO 2e) per year. In this Review, we examine the potential for BCEs to act as carbon sinks and the opportunities to protect or restore ecosystems for this function. Blue carbon sequestration has therefore been suggested as a natural climate solution. Blue carbon ecosystems (BCEs), including mangrove forests, seagrass meadows and tidal marshes, store carbon and provide co-benefits such as coastal protection and fisheries enhancement. XLCubed can create named ranges based on Table elements that can then be used by other Excel objects, such as formulae and charts. Get Query from Excel range The entire query statement for the Table is taken from a cell on the worksheet. Many data reporting tools output to CSV format. Manual Query You may type your own query in the edit field. tabular data and often associated to spreadsheet applications like Excel. Query Auto-generate Query (default) XLCubed controls the query for the Table given the selected options. This reordering is done after any pivoting has been done, so only affects the final displayed results. When enabled, this feature allows you to reorder the columns of the query before they are displayed, and to suppress any columns that aren't required. This is used to configure the columns used as section headers, as described in the section help. If you specify an order query, you can also decide whether to emit all columns in the order query, or just those which have data. When using named query for pivot For Sql queries you can specify the order for pivoted columns to be displayed (by default alphabetical order is used). This is useful if the query can vary the columns it returns, e.g. At the bottom, select the green plus symbol to add a new page to the report. For instance: a middle-toned gray couldīe produced by projecting a red, a blue and a green light at the same point with 50% intensity. The lightness or darkness of a color is determined by the intensity/density of its various parts. White is created by the confluence of the three primary colors, while black represents the absence of all color. The tertiary colors are obtained by mixing the above colors at different intensities. The secondary colors are yellow (mix of red and green), cyan (mix of blue and green), and magenta (mix of blue and red). The primary colors are red, blue, and green.Common applications of additive color theory are theater lighting and television screens. Where subtractive mixing creates the impression of colorīy selectively absorbing part of the spectrum, additive mixing produces color by selective projection of part of the spectrum. Projected media produce color by projecting light onto a reflective surface. Understood in this way, color can be represented as a ratio of amounts of primary color mixed together.Īdditive Color Theory is used when different colored lights are being projected on top of each other. A lighter color (made by adding white to it) is called a tint, while a darker color (made by adding black) is called a shade.Ī more quantifiable approach to color theory is to think about color as the result of light reflecting off a surface. They are used to lighten or darken a color. White and black lie outside of these categories.Neutral colors (browns and grays) can be mixed Depending on amount of color used, different hues can be obtained such as red-orange or yellow-green. The tertiary colors are obtained by mixing one primary color and one secondary color. The secondary colors are orange (mix of red and yellow), green (mix of blue and yellow), and violet (mix of blue and red). These are the "elemental" colors not produced by mixing any other colors, and all other colors are derived from some combination You find them equidistant from each other on the color wheel. The primary colors are red, blue, and yellow.Traditional color theory uses the same principles as subtractive color mixing (see below) but prefers different primary colors. It is based on Newton's color wheel, and continues to be the most common system used by artists. Traditional color theory is a qualitative attempt to organize colors and their relationships. There are a number of approaches to organizing colors into meaningful relationships. A more complex model known as the color tree, created by Albert Munsell, shows the spectrum made up of sets of tints and shades on connected planes. The basic tool used is a color wheel, developed by Isaac Newton in 1666. Color theory splits up colors into three categories: primary, secondary, and tertiary. The study of color in art and design often starts with color theory. Color theory first appeared in the 17th century when English mathematician and scientist Sir Isaac Newton discovered that white light could be divided into a spectrum by passing it through a prism. A red object, for example, looks red because it reflects the red part of the spectrum. Humans perceive colors from the light reflected off objects. The full spectrum of colors is contained in white light. While some concepts dealing with color are broadly applicable across media, others are not. Its relevance, use and function in a given work depend on the medium of that work. Humans respond to color combinations differently, and artists study and use color in part to give desired direction to their work.Ĭolor is fundamental to many forms of art. Color is the most complex artistic element because of the combinations and variations inherent in its use. Tetras - Cardinal tetras and neon tetras are non-aggressive and non-territorial, making them suitable tank mates for rasboras.Make sure you have several of the same species of loach before buying different species. After buying a school of loaches, consider adding other types of loach to the tank. Other species of loach - The majority of loaches are peaceful and enjoy one another’s company. Some of the best fish to house with loaches are: Some loach species swim in the middle of the tank, while other species are bottom-dwelling, and spend a lot of time scavenging for food in the substrate.ĭon’t keep loaches with snails, because the loaches will view the snails as food. Clown loaches come out during the day, making these fish a popular choice among aquarists. Not all loaches are schooling fish, but most loaches are sociable and prefer to be housed with companions. Some loaches, like kuhli loaches, are shy fish that only come out of hiding at night. Social fish that must be kept in schools of at least eight. Pinkish-orange bodies with a horizontal black stripe from the gills to the tail. Rosy loaches: One of the smallest loach species, reaching 1.2 inches in length.Pale bodies with dark brown or black polka dot markings. Polka dot loaches: Similar appearance to yoyo loaches but smaller and more peaceful than the yoyo loach.Active, playful fish that swim in the bottom and mid-section of the tank. Reach up to 2.5 inches in length as adults. Dwarf chain loaches: Yellow or stone-colored bodies with black chain-like patterning.Hardy, beginner-friendly fish that reach up to 3.5 inches in length. Sumo loaches: Colorful fish with eel-like gray-brown bodies, patterned dorsal fins, and bands of red, yellow and orange from the mid-section to the tail.Peaceful community fish that enjoy scavenging food at the bottom of the tank. Java loaches: Similar appearance to kuhli loaches, without the black markings.Do best in schools of six or more and can handle a range of water parameters. Zebra loaches: White or pale yellow bodies with thin black stripes. While these loaches are less common in home aquariums, they also make peaceful, sociable additions to a freshwater tank. Dojo loaches thrive in temperatures below 80☏. They’re available in colors including golden yellow, brown, and albino. These fish are one of the longest loach species, reaching up to 11 inches in length as adults. Dojo Loach/Weather Loachĭojo loaches are also known as weather loaches because the fish display excited behavior when a storm approaches. Hillstream loaches are calm, docile fish that should be housed with at least three other fish of the same species. These fish are taupe-colored with mosaic-like black patterns. They have an unusual appearance, because their bodies are flat with wide fins. Hillstream loaches are native to fast-moving freshwater streams and rivers in Asia. They prefer to live in schools of six or more, and they do best in temperatures of 80☏ or higher. Unlike most loaches, clown loaches are diurnal fish (active during the day). Named for their coloring, clown loaches are pale orange with black spots. Most loaches are native to southern and central Asia, and several species of loach are found in Europe and Africa. The most popular aquarium loaches are Asian loaches, such as clown loaches and kuhli loaches. The pointface loach was the first loach to be recognized in 1940. The loach’s superfamily name, Cobitidae, was a term that Aristotle used to refer to “small fishes that bury.” This name was described in Swedish zoologist Carl Linnaeus’s 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. So, while this particular difficulty setting may not apply to your usual game, the concept could be applied to the mini-games often found in other games. It’s atrocious to play through because both the walls and the passages have no colour on them and so it’s easy to get lost in the geometry, and on the easier difficulty settings, this takes away the enemies that spawn in this area. So System Shock came out back in 1994, and the devs clearly wanted to create something different and very old-school 3D, and so there’s this “cyberspace” mini-game that gives you full 3D movement in any direction around a wire-frame 3D map that has not aged well. Cyber – this one only really relates to this particular game, but the principle can apply elsewhere. This difficulty setting has been done by things like Silent Hill 2, as has been said before, but the fact that there’s a specific distinction between puzzles and story is just great! So, with zero there are none and on three they’re incredibly hard. Puzzles – this one just makes the puzzles easier. This is probably the most fascinating aspect of the difficulty setting. On zero there’s no plot, and on one there’s audio logs, on two there’s passwords and keycards for doors and on four there’s a seven-hour time limit (because the game’s narrative technically takes place over seven hours). So, if you want it to be a straight up shooter then you’d up the combat difficulty and drop the mission difficulty. The difficulty literally removes the plot. Mission – this gets a bit more interesting. This is similar to the standard difficulty settings you’d find in most games. Whereas the highest difficulty makes it incredibly hard. Combat – if you decide to play the game on the lowest combat setting, the enemies never attack you and you can kill them in one hit, and so it effectively turns it into a walking simulator. And it’s worth looking at each of them a bit in-depth to understand what makes them so remarkable: Those four difficulty settings are labelled as: combat, mission, puzzles and cyber. So, there are four difficulty settings that go from zero to three, with zero being very simple and three being hard as hell. But despite just being a clever FPS, the game threw in a rather fascinating array of difficulty settings that truly makes it wonderful to play for a modern gamer who may find certain aspects of it a bit much to handle. System Shock 1 is pretty much just an FPS with some audio logs, emails and keys. Some modern games, like Celeste, allow for a range of difficulty adjustments, and that’s great, but it’s a small indie game and a platformer. But the difficulty settings grabbed my attention right away because of how different it is to pretty much everything else, and it came out in 1994! Why haven’t people been doing this forever?! That is, until I played the original System Shock.Īt time of writing, I’m still playing the game and don’t plan on rushing through it. Some games, like Silent Hill 2 add in an easy mode for the puzzles, but that was pretty much the most innovative thing I’d seen. And so game difficulty, as it’s generally implemented, involves combat difficulty. There’s generally easy, normal and hard modes, and sometimes they throw in a very easy and a very hard/impossible mode. Video games typically have difficulty settings, and those difficulty settings are often quite a simple fare. |
